History

Why 4711 ? This number corresponds to the number of the house of the first manufacturer of this incontrovertible Eau de Cologne. Indeed, in 1794, a commander of French revolution commander occupying Cologne's City, has decided to number each house in the city to better identify them. The house belonging to Wilhelm Muelhens, founding father of the company, have received the number 4711.

The Veritable Origin

The still secret formula of Eau de Cologne 4711,was given away to Wilhelm Muelhens at his wedding by a Carthusian monk. He has offered him as a wedding present.

Legendary Bottle

It was created in 1820 by Peter Heinrich Molanus, and 4711 company has adopted this bottle from 1822, because it making it possible to store and use easier perfume. Muelhens has added a curved collar piece, just below the cap, to allow in case of high heat the expansion of alcohol without risks. Even today, the Molanus bottle is the main packaging of 4711.
